What is your connection to the Latrobe Valley? Do you live, work or play here?
I have always worked and lived right across the Latrobe Valley region. I am an active Assembly board member and have been involved with the Assembly since its establishment back in 2017. I am also a very connected member of my community in Churchill, where I have been involved in the local Churchill community association. I have a strong interest in local government and was previously a member of the ministerial advisory committee for the Hazelwood Health Study. I am a life member of the Latrobe Valley Hockey Association.
What inspires you to work with the Latrobe Health Assembly?
I believe in my community and the meaningful work of the Latrobe Health Assembly are doing to improve health and wellbeing. Through the work of the Assembly, we were given the opportunity for the people's voice to be heard and to be more innovative in shaping solutions to the health problems here. The Latrobe Valley is a unique community; there are significant disadvantages identified in this area and what works and is needed here in the Latrobe Valley, is different to that in the city or other regional areas. This is why having local people's voices heard is so important.
What brings you joy outside of work hours?
My family and friends are what brings me the most joy. I also enjoy the classes at my local leisure centre, a little bit of retail therapy and travelling.
Where is your favourite place to visit in the Latrobe Valley?
It is hard to identify a specific place; there are so many. Some of my favourite places I like to visit in the Latrobe Valley are Lake Hyland in Churchill, Churchill Leisure Centre and Cafe Qu Bah in Morwell.
What gives you hope for the future of health and wellbeing in Latrobe Valley?
What gives me hope for the future of health and wellbeing in the Latrobe Valley is the strength of our community. People continuing to advocate, participate, and make their voices heard. Local people guiding local solutions that reflect what our community truly needs.
