What is your connection to the Latrobe Valley? Do you live, work or play here?
I have grown up in Latrobe, born here, studied here and living, working and raising my family in a place I will always call home.
What inspires you to work with the Latrobe Health Assembly?
The connection Latrobe Health Assembly has with the community is at its core and it engages community in the most meaningful way, providing opportunity for their voice and ideas to be heard where it otherwise might not be. There is also something about the innovation with the Assembly's work that brings me so much excitement to come to work, we get opportunity to think outside the box and do things differently than they have ever been done before. The Assembly for me is work, but it also my opportunity as a community member to help shape what Latrobe Valley looks like for me, my friends, my family and my children.
What brings you joy outside of work hours?
In this chapter of life my joy comes from raising my young children, I keep busy entertaining them and exposing them to what the world has to offer. We love getting out and enjoying various places and activities each week, whether that be the local library to borrow books or complete a colouring activity, swimming lessons, weekly playgroup meeting with friends or watching the local footy on a weekend. The joy that all these little activities paired with time at home brings to my little people brings me the most joy outside of my work bubble.
Where is your favourite place to visit in the Latrobe Valley?
There are so many hidden gems across Latrobe Valley, each with their own unique offerings. Nothing quite beats the quiet pockets of open space that fall between our small towns, a favourite of mine to visit is Martain Walker Reserve, nestled in the farmland and bush of Yinnar South. With plenty of open space for the kids to burn energy, a creek to play in and huge trees to keep cool under in summertime or dry in the winter it's the perfect place to explore.
What gives you hope for the future of health and wellbeing in Latrobe Valley?
Working for the Latrobe Health Assembly, I am so lucky to be exposed to the passionate community that we have here. It is those people who work with us, bring ideas and show passion for their community that make me feel good about raising my family here. I know that our community aspires to be a thriving, connected community and it makes me excited about what the years ahead will bring.
